Introduction
History is a subject that educates students about past events but also equips them with vital skills for the modern world. Through history, students can develop their critical thinking and problem-solving abilities as well as gain a greater understanding of current events that shape the world in which we live.
The purpose of the History Curriculum is to develop:
- A passion for history.
- A greater understanding of how modern Britain and the modern world developed.
- Preparation for KS4 history at Hurstmere School.
- Preparation for the study of history beyond KS4.
- An understanding of their place in the world and how global and national history have impacted their lives.
- Investment in their local community through awareness of local history (both Kent and London).
- A curriculum that links together well and provides the building blocks for further study.
- An understanding of the diverse voices that make up British and world history.

The breadth and depth of this course will require the pupil’s hard work and commitment, and an ability to express himself well on paper.
